How to Write a Save the Date 101

Updated: Aug 19, 2020

Save the Dates are JUST as important as your actual wedding invites. But that doesn't mean they're easy to put together.

Save the Dates are KEY for in planning your big day because they allow your guests to add the specific day to their calendars and book any travel accommodations that may be necessary.

Here are some things to keep in mind when writing up your own Save the Dates:

Standard Save the Dates should include: date, the names of the engaged couple, the location/venue, a blurb about the formal invitation coming soon, and any URL or social media information if the couple has created a wedding website.

If travel is necessary: include accommodations information for guests convenience in your save the dates. This information can be placed on either a separate, small insert card or if there is minimal information it can be included on your Save the Date card itself.

Optional additions:

  • A short schedule of events to give guests a closer look into the timeline of the weekend, so they can plan accordingly.

  • A wedding hashtag...something that will be used on the big day itself and just to add a little fun and personalization!
